WEDNESDAY'S DEVOTION

Ephesians 1:22-23  “And He put all things under His feet and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”

I saw a video on TV once where someone had put a camera on the back of his dog to see things from the dog’s viewpoint.   It was surprising how boring it was.  There were a lot of table legs and people’s knees, but not many faces.

I have often gotten down on the carpet in my home so I can be on “eye level” with our little dog.   She’s only about 8 inches tall, and I used to wonder what she saw on that level.  My height is five feet, six inches, and I didn’t realize the difference in our view until the first time I did that.

My beautiful cherry dining room table looks totally different from underneath.  There is a cherry finish on the top, but underneath, it is plain, rough, and unfinished, with tags stapled to it- it’s not nearly as impressive as it looks to me from a height of  five and a half feet.  Now I understand why our dog is always wanting us to pick her up-  everything looks a lot more interesting at five foot, six inches, than at a height of just eight inches!

Jesus is the “Head” of the Church.  The church is His body.  Just like your head is connected to your body and wherever your head is, your body follows, so we are joined to Christ and share in His place of victory.  Although we are not  physically connected, we are spiritually one.  We are joined to the Lord in our spirit.  (I Cor. 6:l7).

While living “down here” on this earth, we can lift up our eyes and see things “In Christ”, our Head.  The Holy Spirit will “pick us up” and, instead of seeing things from the place of our sin, our failures or our problems, we will see them from our place In Christ, where all things are under His feet.  If they are under His feet, and He is the Head of the body, the church, then they are under our feet!

“But perhaps some will say, ‘What is this to us?  We do not doubt that your picture is true enough, and that the Lord Jesus is above all.  But heaven is far away.’  My brothers, heaven is here.” (Eph. 1:22-23) Carpenter’s version.
